Amazon Milk Frog
Captive Bred | 3-5 months out of water | Feeding on small crickets
The Amazon milk frog, or Trachy Cephalus resinifictrix, is a large, colorful frog native to the Amazon Basin. Known for their milky defensive secretion, these frogs feature striking blue, gray, and white colors with dark bands. They live in trees and are vocal during the rainy season. Popular as pets, they thrive in warm, humid environments.
Husbandry
Enclosure Size- As babies these frogs require a 12x12x14 arboreal enclosure, sizing up the enclosure as they grow. As adults an 18x18x24 is required for one frog, for every frog added to your enclosure you should add two inches to the length, width, and height. Example: 2 Frogs should be kept in an enclosure measuring 20x20x26
Lighting Requirement-Amazon milk frogs need a 12-hour light and dark cycle. Use a low-output UVB bulb (2.0 or 5.0) to help them synthesize vitamin D3 for calcium metabolism. Provide a gentle temperature gradient. This setup mimics their natural rainforest environment and keeps them healthy.
Heating Requirement-Amazon milk frogs need a temperature range of 75-82°F (24-28°C) during the day and 65-75°F (18-24°C) at night. Use a low-wattage heat source to maintain these temperatures, avoiding overheating.
Feeding & Vitamins- Amazon milk frogs primarily eat live insects like crickets, roaches, and mealworms. Feed them 2-3 times a week, dusting the insects with calcium and vitamin supplements to ensure proper nutrition.
