Captive Bred | 1yr old | Feeding on med. crickets

Chinese cave geckos (Goniurosaurus hainanensis), are a fascinating species native to the limestone caves and karst landscapes of China. They are notable for their distinctive appearance, featuring a sleek, elongated body with striking patterns and vibrant colors. These geckos are nocturnal and thrive in environments that mimic their natural habitat, with high humidity and plenty of hiding spots. Their unique look and relatively calm demeanor make them a popular choice for reptile enthusiasts. Chinese cave geckos are relatively low maintenance, but they require a well-maintained terrarium to mimic their natural cave environment for optimal health and well-being.

HUSBANDRY

Enclosure Size-For a single cave gecko an enclosure about a 24x18x18 enclosure will suffice. But for a pair a minimum of a 36x18x18 is recommended.

Lighting Requirements-Chinese cave geckos do not require UVB lighting, but it is strongly recommended, however a regular light cycle is beneficial. Provide a 12-hour light and 12-hour dark cycle to simulate natural day and night. Use a low-wattage light or LED to avoid overheating the enclosure.

Heating Requirements-Chinese cave geckos need a temperature gradient of 75-80°F (24-29°C) during the day and 65-75°F (18-24°C) at night. Use a heat pad or ceramic heater, avoiding heat lamps. Monitor temperatures with a thermometer and maintain humidity at 60-80% by misting and providing a water dish.

Feeding and Vitamins-Chinese cave geckos need a diet of insects like crickets, mealworms, and Dubia roaches. Feed juveniles every other day and adults 2-3 times a week. Dust insects with calcium and vitamin D3 supplements and offer a general reptile multivitamin weekly. Provide fresh water and mist their enclosure for humidity. Use tongs to feed and ensure insects are no larger than the gecko's head.
